What is an Aqeeqah (Aqiqah)? The word Aqeeqah (also spelt as Aqīqah and Aqeeqa) is derived from the Arabic word "ʿAqq," which literally means ‘the ‘act of cutting’ or ‘sacrifice’.  Aqeeqah (Aqiqah) is an important Islamic ritual that involves the sacrifice of an animal, usually a goat or sheep on the birth of a Muslim baby.
